Los Angeles Raiders boss Al Davis said he wasn`t surprised the Kansas City Royals released Bo Jackson, but insisted his club wouldn`t give up on the part-time running back who suffered a hip injury in a Jan. 13 playoff game against Cincinnati.
”It`s our understanding it will take two or three months to heal,”
Davis said Monday night. ”We`ll stay with him. We`ll fight to get him well.” Said Raiders coach Art Shell: ”(Doctors) said he had a slight dislocation. With rest, he was supposed to be able to play again. You hear all this stuff going on now. Until I hear from Bo`s people, I`m not going to speculate.”
Jackson, paid $1.48 million by the Raiders last year, gained 698 yards on 125 carries, a 5.6-yard average that led all NFL backs with more than 100 rushes. He was voted to the AFC Pro Bowl team by his peers and coaches.
