White Sox outfielder Dan Pasqua avoided salary arbitration Monday by signing a one-year contract worth $800,000, one day before a scheduled arbitration hearing.

Pasqua, 29, had been seeking $920,000, or $200,000 more than the Sox had offered. He was paid $370,000 a year ago when he hit .274 with 13 home runs and 58 runs batted in. Pasqua has hit 86 home runs in six seasons.

”I didn`t want to put Danny through arbitration.” said Alan Nero, Pasqua`s agent. ”He deserves better than that.”

The Sox did go to arbitration on Monday with Cory Snyder, acquired from Cleveland in a trade. The outfielder was seeking $1.02 million and the club was offering $800,000.
