You`ve seen the movie. You may even have seen the exterior of the Winnetka house starring in John Hughes`current hit film ”Home Alone.” But no, you have not seen the real interiors of the residence owned by John and Cynthia Abendshien.
Arguably the second most famous house in the country this week-after the White House-the Abendshien home is the setting for the holiday season`s hottest film, which has already grossed nearly $67 million.
The floor plan of the movie home may resemble the real house, ”but it is not my decorating,” said Cynthia Abendshien. ”They used a lot of red and green colors to give it a holiday feeling. My colors are much more muted.”
The couple had just finished redecorating when, Abendshien recalled,
”there was a knock on the door.”
Nervous about what the film crew might do, she watched as walls were covered with fabric. ”They copied some plant stands we have at the top of the stairs,” she noted. ”They used traditional dining room furniture as we do.” Accepting the house`s celebrity status with good-humor, Abendshien said,
”Most of the people who come by are very respectful. They keep a distance. . . . I did have two boys who asked if they could have their picture taken by the staircase.”
