Even before celebrating Thanksgiving, Heidi Reis and Deb Dockendorf were decorating a 5-foot spruce tree.

The women lavished the tree with Italian lights, shimmery copper mesh ribbon, exotic dried flowers and peacock feathers. When they finished, the pair dubbed the creation ”All That Glitters Is Not Gold” and donated it to be auctioned Thursday at the 13th annual ”ArtisTrees” benefit for Children`s Memorial Hospital.

”I spend 18 hours of every day in the management and consulting arena;

so this was another avenue for me,” Reis said about her creative contribution.

Reis and Dockendorf`s tree will be among the 70 holiday decorations on the auction block. Other choices include Mayor and Mrs. Richard Daley`s offering-a tree festooned with gift certificates from Chicago restaurants, hotels and retailers. Proceeds from the auction as well as the $60-per-person party tickets will help launch Children Memorial`s Center for Cancer and Blood Diseases.

Those who cannot attend the gala will still be able to glimpse the contributors` artistry on display Tuesday through Thursday at the Lake Shore Bank, 605 N. Michigan Ave.
