East Aurora coach Scott Martens believes his team may suffer from overconfidence. If so, Friday`s 73-46 Upstate Eight stroll at winless Lake Park wasn`t much of a cure.

For the first time this season, East Aurora (5-0, 2-0) trailed in the first quarter, by as much as six. Martens was not amused.

”Our kids need to be humble,” he said.

Thomas Wyatt led East Aurora with 23 points. Tor Dransholt led Lake Park

(0-5, 0-2) with 11.

8. RICH CENTRAL

John Elifson scored 27 points; that was the good news for Oak Forest. The bad news was that Rich Central held the rest of the team to 19 and used balanced scoring to post a 90-46 nonconference shellacking. Chris Ellis scored 18 points for Rich Central (5-1). Oak Forest is 1-6.

14. JOLIET WEST

Joliet West hit 16 of 18 free throws in the second half to hold off Sandburg 63-57. Sandburg cut the lead to two with 4:45 left in the game, then West went on a 10-2 streak to ice it. Tony Marion and Michael Thompson led Joliet West (6-0) with 16 points each. Dave Rettker scored 23 for Sandburg

(2-4).

16. CHICAGO VOCATIONAL

East Chicago (Ind.) won the nonconference match 75-59, and Chicago Vocational coach Richard Cook placed the blame in his backcourt.

His guards scored 2 points in the first half while Delman Johnson and Charles Rick scored 21 to help East Chicago (3-1) to a 36-27 lead. They finished with 15 each.

Guard Joe Weaver had 14 for CVS (4-2), but 12 came in the second half on four 3-pointers. Center Juwan Howard scored 26 points.

”Our guards were sleepwalking out there,” Cook said, ”and Juwan has to learn to kick the ball out.”

17. BATAVIA

Corey Williams scored 21 points to boost Batavia (5-0, 2-0) to a 61-42 Little Seven victory over Plainfield (3-4, 0-2). Dwayne Sarver added 13.
