Denver-based Tele-Communications Inc., owners of such local cable companies as the much-maligned Chicago Cable, quietly has bumped SportsChannel Chicago from its basic package.
Citing rising fees charged by cable programmers, TCI is charging subscribers $1 less a month if they don`t take the sports service.
Thus far, according to a TCI official, less than 1 percent of its subscribers have chosen to drop SC.
”I feel it`s a great success story,” said SportsChannel General Manager Jim Corno. ”People would rather keep the service and pay the money.”
Corno said the service is in the process of negotiating with all its operators and that TCI was the first to reach agreement.
