Marguerite E. “Peg” Hammersmith Age 95, a longtime resident of Naperville, IL, passed away on Sunday, September 19, 2010, after a long illness. She was born in Hinsdale, IL on June 20, 1915.Peg is survived by her sisters, Ruth K. and Mabel A.She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Mabel.The Hammersmith family settled in Naperville in 1848. Peg attended Ellsworth Grade School, Naperville High School and was a graduate of North Central College in 1937, majoring in English and History. She received her M.A. in Education in 1951 from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and was a high school teacher in Michigan for 32 years. Following her teaching career, Peg worked as a reporter for the Beacon News in Aurora and The Naperville Sun. She was a longtime member of the Naperville Heritage Society, Friends of Nichols Library and SS. Peter & Paul Church.Visitation Friday, September 24, 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 36 N. Ellsworth St., Naperville.A Mass of Christian Burial will follow Friday, 10:00 A.M. in the church.Interment: Naperville Cemetery.A reception will follow.In lieu of flowers, memorials to: Naperville Heritage Society, 523 South Webster St., Naperville, IL 60540 or North Central College, 30 N.
