Laurence Straus OBITUARY

Larry Straus born April 20th, 1936, lived his 90 years with a zest for life, and a knack for turning everything he touched to gold. His early years on The South Side of Chicago were most remembered by those who knew him for his Football days being the City Wide Scoring Champion at Harvard School For Boys in Hyde Park. Larry went on to attend the Wharton School of Business at University of Pennsylvania where he became proud member of the Zeta Beta Tau (ZBT) Fraternity. Larry worked in The Steel Business, starting out at Century Steel before venturing out on his own to form The Jame Steel Corporation soon followed by The Mars Steel Corporation, with a team of dynamic partners. In 1961he met his bride to be Sandra Fiedler of Omaha Nebraska. A marriage that would last fifteen years, and which gave them two beautiful children, Cynthia Lynn Straus and William Spencer Straus. They parted amicably. In 1980 Larry met Caryn Gottlieb. They fell deeply in love, married and he spent the remaining years of his life together in a blessed marriage. Caryn came with a big family, Harry Gottlieb, Anne Gottlieb and Tom Gottlieb, along with sister-in-law Sandy Francis and her husband Mitch Francis. Grandchildren followed, his Granddaughter Junie Straus and two step-grandsons Louis Fowler Gottlieb and Moses Fowler Gottlieb. He is survived by all, including two nephew’s, his brother’s sons, Jon Straus and Peter Straus. Larry was a kind, loving man. A man whom many looked up to, admired and adored. His life came to an end on September 23rd, 2026 at the age of 90. He outlived most of his contemporaries, including his beloved brother, Stephen Straus. Larry will be greatly missed.
