Donald Lee Seifert OBITUARY
Donald Lee Seifert, 89, of Big Rock, IL, passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2026. Donald leaves behind his loving wife of 28 years, Janice Seifert; beloved children, Donna (John) Brazill, April (Michael) Schiestel, Christine (Dave) Lamansky, Corinne (Alex) Mishos and Catherine (Kenneth) Rogers; cherished grandchildren, Kylie, Camryn, Noah, Paige, Nicole, Carley, Chelsea, Nicholas, Alexis, Jacob and Kyle; dear great-grandchildren, Vivian and Graham. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Hermina Seifert; first wife, Judith and siblings, Raymond, Lorraine, Nancy and Vernon (in infancy). At the age of 89, we say goodbye to a beloved husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, and friend whose long life was filled with family, music, and a genuine enjoyment of the world around him. He was a man who loved to tinker. There was always something to fix, take apart, improve, or simply figure out how it worked. Handy and resourceful, he enjoyed working with his hands and was always willing to lend those hands when someone needed help. Those who knew him will also remember his firm handshake—a simple gesture that said a great deal about the man behind it. It was strong, sincere, and unmistakably his. To many, he was affectionately known as “Dandy Don,” a nickname that captured the warmth and personality people loved about him. Music was an important part of his life and brought him great enjoyment throughout the years. He also loved going on cruises with his wife, Janice, enjoying the opportunity to travel, experience new places, and make lasting memories together. But more than anything, he enjoyed his family. The time spent together, the stories shared, the celebrations, trips, ordinary afternoons, and countless small moments over the years were what made a long life a meaningful one. At 89, he leaves behind not only the things he built and repaired, but something much more lasting—the memories, traditions, lessons, and stories that will continue to be shared by the family who loved him. He will be deeply missed and warmly remembered, perhaps whenever a favorite song begins to play, something around the house needs fixing, or someone reaches out with a good, firm handshake. Family will be receiving guests on Tuesday, October 6, 2026 from 10:00am until time of service at 12:00pm at Dieterle Memorial Home, 1120 South Broadway, Montgomery, IL 60538. Burial will immediately follow at Saint Paul Lutheran Cemetery, 1400 Douglas Road, Montgomery, IL 60538.
