Chicago police said Friday that they had charged three men with murder in connection with the fatal shooting last month of a Northwest Side currency exchange owner.

Police said the arrests came late Thursday after a witness was able to recall the license plate number of the suspects’ getaway car, a late-model, red Ford hatchback that was parked behind the Chicago Currency & Check Exchange, 4463 W. Lawrence Ave.

Police said charged with one count each of first-degree murder were Jamilah Taylor, 18, of 9850 S. Hoxie Ave., Howard Swift, 17, of 9817 S. Hoxie, and Peter Randle, 19, of 8250 S. Eberhart Ave., all of Chicago. Police said they believe Taylor was the getaway driver and Randle fired the shots that killed the currency exchange owner, Albert Topp III, 62, of Park Ridge, on Sept. 5.
