Sir Patrick Stewart, “Star Trek: The Next Generation” commander, “X-Men” franchisee and a stalwart of the London and Broadway stage, is scheduled to receive the Chicago International Film Festival’s annual Gold Hugo career achievement award, festival officials announced Thursday.

The tribute, Oct. 25 at the downtown AMC River East theaters, will be highlighted by an on-stage discussion (with film clips) canvassing the 77-year-old actor’s career. The 53rd festival runs Oct. 12-26.

Stewart doesn’t have a movie in the festival, but two of his most recent film performances illustrate his formidable range: He appeared as Charles Xavier in “Logan” the same year in which he provided the voice of Poop in “The Emoji Movie.”

“Riveting,” “captivating” and “extraordinary complexity” are three descriptors of Stewart’s work, per festival founder and CEO Michael Kutza in the festival announcement.

Past Gold Hugo recipients include Robin Williams, Helen Mirren, Jane Fonda and director Robert Zemeckis.

Tickets ($15) to the Patrick Stewart tribute go on sale to Cinema/Chicago members Sept. 20, and to the general public Oct. 22. For more information call 312-332-FILM or go to chicagofilmfestival.com.
