(Up from 40) No serious discussion of great suburban restaurants can omit Paul Virant’s exemplary Vie, a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it spot in downtown Western Springs. The dining room has a sophisticated, urban feel that matches the serious, contemporary food. And don’t miss the bar: I’ve visited just to sit there for a couple of nibbles and one of Vie’s excellent cocktails. (If there’s a better cocktail program in the suburbs, I haven’t found it.)
