You do take a hit on the Pilot's gas mileage. It gets an EPA-estimated 17/24 mpg city/highway. With my week on suburban streets, I averaged 16 mpg. That hurts a little, but it's a big vehicle with a 250-horsepower, 3.5-liter V-6 engine. I appreciated that the Pilot uses unleaded gasoline.
Inside, the Acadia gets a new upper dash design featuring more padded materials, fake metal satin trim and stitchings. It looks a bit more premium, but touching the materials proves the updates are aesthetic only; most are still hard to the touch. The new touch-screen features capacitive buttons like those found in the 2013 Chevy Malibu Eco, and LCD readouts in the temperature control knobs lend a nice, upscale feel. Besides those changes, most of the rest of the cabin will look and feel the same to current owners of the Acadia, Chevy Traverse or Buick Enclave.

JB: Winner In person, the Acadia's new design appears more fluid and complete than in photos where the new styling looks clunky and tacked on. Along with the higher-quality interior, I'm also happy to see the old navigation system replaced by something new. We haven't used it yet, but anything should be better than the old system's pitiful graphics.

The 2013 Acura RDX was called a prototype at the North American International Auto Show, but in Honda parlance that means it's essentially done. (Most of its concepts are almost done.) It should hit dealerships in spring.
The Beetle isn't intended to be a family car. After all, it seats only four. What it would be great for, though, is as a second car that Mom or Dad could zip around in for quick errands, or that Timmy Teen could borrow (if his grades were good enough) to get to Saturday morning football practice while Mom and Dad "sleep" in.
Though I drove only one powertrain in one trim level, I can see how much promise the 2013 Malibu holds. Automakers have one chance to get the basics right -- things like ride, handling and noise abatement -- and Chevrolet definitely has. Providing that the future drivetrains are done right, the Malibu will help round out Chevrolet's car lineup. What's less clear is if shoppers will deem the mileage worthy of the Eco's higher price. That will be determined, in part, by how efficient and affordable the base Malibu turns out to be.
MH: Loser I thought this looked decent in photos, but seeing it in person elicited a different response. The blocky greenhouse doesn't go with the rest of the car, which has a stubby look overall. The inscrutable name earns it further demotion.

DT: Loser If the Tru 140S plagiarized the Eclipse, the Code 130R is a BMW 1 Series counterfeit. Every single person in Detroit mentioned the small BMW when describing this design. Luckily, I don?t think either Chevy is really destined to hit the streets.
JW: Winner Tough crowd. It's a provocative concept car, and only a couple aspects of it look awkward. Just look at the length of this report we're writing! Concept cars are back along with the auto industry and consumer confidence. Win, win, win.
KM: Winner I can see Chevrolet's 1.4-liter engine working in the Code 130R, whose styling doesn?t suggest a V-10. The 1 Series (and Mazda RX-8) comparisons are inevitable, but I found the proportions attractive.
