Bag Boy – Page 7 –

The Bears are fourth on this list not because their outlook is bleak, but because it's that tough to crack the Top 3 in this town. GM <a class="runtimeTopic" data-topic-id="PEBSL000806" href="#">Phil Emery</a> has made a series of genius moves since taking over, including trading for Jay Cutler's favorite receiver, Brandon Marshall; drafting receiver Alshon Jeffery, signing Martellus "Black Unicorn" Bennett; bulking up the offensive line; and taking a chance on offensive wiz Marc Trestman. Long a sore spot in Chicago, the offense figures to be one of the <a class="runtimeTopic" data-topic-id="ORSPT000007" href="#">NFL</a>'s elite.
The aging defense, which fell apart like a wet tissue after <a class="runtimeTopic" data-topic-id="PESPT008481" href="#">Lovie Smith</a> was fired, called the cavalry this offseason, highlighted by the <a class="runtimeTopic" data-topic-id="PESPT0013235" href="#">Jared Allen</a> signing. If the defense, which was historically terrible in 2013, can make a modest leap, the Bears can contend for a title this season.

Sports Illustrated ruins Bears season

June 18, 2018 at 8:32 a.m.

No, really, Sports Illustrated. Thank you. Thank you for jinxing the 2014 Bears season before it has started. The SI cover jinx, I believe it's called. Should be familiar to...

JRW takes a back seat to no one in Chicago

June 18, 2018 at 8:39 a.m.

So by now you've heard there's a third baseball team in Chicago. They generally draw better TV ratings than the professional teams here in town, and they're awesome. Jackie Robinson...

June 18, 2018 at 9:04 a.m.

Ah, preseason football. So close to the real thing. I had the pleasure of going to the Bears game last Friday, and I'll just say it was preseason for the...

Free agents must think Chicago is cursed

June 17, 2018 at 11:04 a.m.

Now, for the first time, I'm seeing why free agents may be hesitant to come to this city. I think it's the fear of injury. In the past week alone,...

After his second serious knee injury, Derrick Rose is back on the court with Team USA.

Derrick Rose is better than any free agent. Period.

June 17, 2018 at 12:02 p.m.

It's time to celebrate the Bulls' biggest offseason acquisition. And similar to the LeBron James saga, you can cue the "I'm Coming Home" music because he's finally returning to Chicago....

June 17, 2018 at 11:33 a.m.

Bag Boy has a soft spot for kindred spirits, aka people who dress up in costumes because they love sports. People like 31-year-old Chicago resident Mike D'Amico, better known as...

I’m way too attached to these White Sox

June 17, 2018 at 11:45 a.m.

As it turns out, I've had a bad case of White Sox bias. It's a terrible condition. It stems from years of watching the same guys who have never actually...

I’m not falling for this World Cup nonsense

June 18, 2018 at 9:14 a.m.

Stop faking it. I'm talking to you, Mr. "I know all about the World Cup and I just love it!" guy. Oh, you know who you are. You're a male,...

Coach Marc Trestman (left) and the Bears are done playing in the Metrodome.

So long, Metrodome. We won’t miss you

June 18, 2018 at 3:39 p.m.

While we're all busy breaking up the Bulls, let's break up the Bears, too. We're good at that around here, breaking teams up before they win anything. But before that,...

Charles Tillman's latest injury might be one too many for the Bears cornerback to continue his career.

If this is the end, Bears fans will miss Charles Tillman

June 18, 2018 at 3:50 p.m.

From Breaking Bad to breaking just plain awful. I want to take this opportunity to say goodbye to Charles Tillman personally. Something tells me the old vet will not be...
