A 95-year-old woman was pronounced dead after a vehicle crash Monday afternoon on the city’s Lower West side, Chicago police said.

Shortly after 5 p.m., the victim was traveling with another woman in a gray sedan headed west in the 1900 block of West 18th Street when the vehicle struck a black truck stopped at a traffic light, police said.

The impact caused the truck to hit a silver sedan that also was stopped at the traffic light, police said.

A 95-year-old passenger of the gray sedan was taken in critical condition to Stroger Hospital where she was later pronounced dead. She was identified as Guadalupe Almendarez of the Clearing neighborhood, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

The occupants of the other vehicles involved in the crash refused medical help at the scene.

The Major Accidents Investigation Unit was investigating.
