Both incumbent Democrat Kisha E. McCaskill and Republican challenger Richard Nolan have made property taxes a campaign issue, but neither has a magic bullet. McCaskill tells us that “any tax increase should be an absolute last resort.” We’ve heard that before. Nolan says blithely that he will “look to cut waste out of the budget,” while providing no examples. He says he would cap property taxes at 1% of a home’s value, using money saved by cutting waste to fill the gaping hole in school funding such a move would create. He’s not being realistic, and we’re wary about him running on what he calls a “Judeo-Christian platform” for a role serving all residents regardless of religion.
Keisha McCaskill is endorsed.
