Republican state Rep. Amy Elik of Alton has represented this Metro East district since 2021. A certified public accountant with a fiscally conservative approach to government, Elik has earned our enthusiastic endorsements in the past. We appreciate her commitment to financial accountability.
Her Democratic challenger, Alton Alderwoman Rosetta “Rosie” Brown, 65, brings local government experience and a thoughtful approach to public safety. But we found her difficult to pin down on fiscal matters, particularly pension reform and the proposed millionaire tax. Elik remains our choice.
