Democratic state Rep. Marti Deuter, 52, faces Republican Gina Parrilli, 56, in this west suburban district. We endorsed Deuter’s Republican opponent in 2024, and she faces a similarly pragmatic Republican challenger this year.
Parrilli rightly connects tax relief to spending discipline, consolidation, pension reform and accountability, and we enjoyed her strong position on ethics reform and the legislative inspector general. “Public officials should not be responsible for policing themselves,” she told us. We agree. In general, the positions she shared with us were heavy on detail and free of inflammatory rhetoric, which we found refreshing. Deuter, by comparison, did not offer clear answers to some of our questions, including our asking for her position on the millionaires tax and how to handle Illinois’ pension crisis, though we give her credit for endorsing the idea of giving the legislative inspector general’s office teeth.
Parrilli offers voters a level-headed conservative voice, and we appreciate her fiscal common sense.
Gina Parrilli is endorsed.
