Rosary College Prep in Aurora was founded almost 65 years ago, but this fall it is making a bit of history by hosting its first Homecoming celebration.
Running from Oct. 11-17, the week will feature a variety of events for current students, families, alumnae and the larger community, according to a press release from the school.
Rosary College Prep is a Catholic, college-preparatory high school for young women at 901 N. Edgelawn Drive in Aurora, and is sponsored by the Dominican Sisters of Springfield, Illinois.
All events for the Homecoming celebration, called RoCo, will take place at the school in Aurora.

“Hosting Rosary’s first RoCo puts our school at the center of our own Homecoming week, which feels new and exciting,” said senior Lily Helfer in the release. “It’s a great way to build school spirit and add to Rosary’s identity as a sisterhood.”
With the formerly all-boys Marmion Academy in Aurora going co-ed this academic year, Rosary, now the only single-sex high school in the western suburbs, decided it was time to launch RoCo, officials said in the release.
The week’s activities will mix existing traditions, such as the Homecoming court and powderpuff football game, with some new ones, like an all-community Mass and NFL tailgate party set for Sunday, Oct. 11.
The Mass will be held in the Rosary Auditorium at 10:45 a.m., with the tailgate party to begin at noon in the Rosary Gym and Cafeteria, where the game between the Chicago Bears and the Green Bay Packers will be streamed on a big screen. There will also be carnival games and prizes for kids, hosted by Rosary College Prep students and clubs, along with snacks and activities for teens, the release said.
An Oktoberfest event is set for 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, following the powderpuff football game.
The Rosary Sports Boosters and Rosary Royal Parents invite adults ages 21 and older to enjoy food, drinks and live music at the Oktoberfest event, the release said. Tickets are $55.
