
NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUMS PROGRAM AT ELGIN MUSEUM
Field Museum Curator Emeritus Lance Grande will present “Curators: Behind the Scenes of Natural History Museums” from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, at the Elgin Public Museum, 225 Grand Blvd. in Lords Park.
Grande has been a curator with the Field Museum for more than 43 years, according to a social media post, and recently became a member of the Elgin Public Museum’s Board of Directors. He will talk from personal experience about how natural history museums reveal the past and hold keys to the future.

ANNUAL EL TROTE AND CULTURAL CELEBRATION ON OCT. 10
The U-46 Educational Foundation and the Gail Borden Public Library Foundation’s third annual El Trote de las Calacas (Skeleton Trot) 5K and cultural celebration will start at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, outside the Gail Borden Public Library, 270 N. Grove Ave., Elgin.
In addition to the run and walk, the event will feature food trucks, a marketplace, traditional music, dancers and characters associated with the Day of the Dead, according to a news release.

With parking limited near the library, participants are encouraged to take a free shuttle from McKinley Elementary School, 258 Lovell St., or the Chicago/Highland Parking Garage, 48 N. Spring St.

THREE ACTS PERFORMING CONCERTS AT ECC ARTS CENTER
Elgin Community College Arts Center will present three acts in concert between Oct. 3 and 10 in the Blizzard Theatre, Building H, 1700 Spartan Drive.
The Ballet Folklórico Huehuecoyotl dance troupe is to perform traditional Mexican dances at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, and 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 4.
Joan Curto and her band will celebrate the singer-songwriters of the 1960s, ’70s, and ’80s at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6.
The St. Olaf Orchestra will perform Richard Strauss’s “Death and Transfiguration,” “Danzon No. 2” by Arturo Marquez and “Hungarian Dances No. 2” by Johannes Brahms at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10.

EAST DUNDEE VILLAGE SELFIE RESCHEDULED FOR SUNDAY
East Dundee has rescheduled its second community selfie to 11 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 4, outside The Depot, 319 N. River St., East Dundee.
The photo shoot had been scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 20, but was postponed due to rainy weather, according to a social media post. The village will use a drone to take the photo. Residents are welcome to bring family, friends and neighbors to pose for the picture.
In September 2025, about 100 people showed up to be included in the village’s first selfie, with a photo from the session hanging inside The Depot.

SELF-GUIDED EAST DUNDEE ARTS WALK TO BE HELD OCT. 10
To celebrate the partnership between the East Dundee Arts Council and The Conservation Foundation, the organizations are co-hosting an art walk from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, on the south lawn of The Depot, 120 Railroad St.
Attendees pick up “passports” to use for a self-guided tour of East Dundee’s public art projects, according to the village’s newsletter. Artists will be present to talk about their works. The free event will also include local art vendors, live music and eco-friendly family activities.
