An 18-year-old Oswego man has been charged with aggravated battery after allegedly punching and threatening to shoot and stab a man who was sitting in his vehicle on Saturday in Aurora, according to the Aurora Police Department.
At around 5:29 a.m. Sept. 26, Aurora police officers responded to a man reporting that he had been threatened by an unknown man while sitting in his vehicle in the 700 block of South River Street in Aurora, a news release from the police department said.
According to preliminary investigation, the individual — who has been identified by the police department as Josiah Evans, 18, of Oswego — allegedly approached the man sitting in his vehicle, and, during the confrontation that followed, threatened to shoot and stab him as well as punched him in the face, according to the news release.
The alleged confrontation was apparently unprovoked, according to the police department, which said the man in the vehicle, who declined medical attention, did not know the man charged in the incident.
Officers then located a man matching the suspect’s description a short distance away, near South River Street and Rathbone Avenue, according to the news release.
The man, Evans, was then detained, and he allegedly attempted to approach and threaten the man in the vehicle again before becoming “physically confrontational” with an officer, per the police department.
Evans was then taken into custody, and has since been charged with aggravated battery to a peace officer and aggravated battery in a public way, according to the news release.
The police department also said that Evans had been arrested by Aurora police just days earlier following an investigation into vehicle burglaries in the area of South LaSalle and Bluff streets. Evans was charged with one count of burglary to a motor vehicle in connection with that case, per the release.
Evans remains in custody at the Kane County jail, the news release said, and is next set to appear in court on Oct. 14.
