DUPAGE AWARDS NAPERVILLE MOM A NURSING SCHOLARSHIP
DuPage County awarded five scholarships totaling $35,000 to county residents through its Community Services Block Grant Scholarship Program, including one to Naperville mom Dakaria Robinson, who is studying nursing at Rasmussen University.
“This scholarship has brought me closer to achieving my career goals and helping me prepare for a successful future, where I can make a meaningful impact in my field,” Robinson said in a news release issued by the county.
Individual awards ranged from $5,000 to $10,000. The five recipients were selected based on financial need, academic achievement, community and school involvement, and interest in high-demand employment sectors, the release said.
The scholarships supplement the cost of tuition, books, supplies and other school expenses.
Other scholarship winners are Zakay Cuevas, of West Chicago, who is studying computer science at the Illinois Institute of Technology; Flor Luna, a West Chicago mom studying accounting at College of DuPage; Kayden Smith, a Downers Grove resident studying sociology at Illinois State University; and Hanover Park resident Monique Harrison, a nursing student at Elgin Community College.
TRICK-OR-TREAT EVENT PLANNED FOR RIVERVIEW FARMSTEAD
Children and their families can hike along a glowing night trail and enjoy a campfire with marshmallows and s’mores during a trick-or-treating event Friday, Oct. 23, at Riverview Farmstead on Book Road, south of Hassert Boulevard, in Naperville.
Two sessions will be offered, with the first running from 6 to 7 p.m. and the second from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Tickets are $5 per person, and registration is required by Tuesday, Oct. 20. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Costumes are encouraged.
The evening is not a parking lot trunk or treat. Rather, participants should be prepared for a night hike, a Forest Preserve District of Will County news release said. During the event, guests can check out the historical barns and buildings, bring a bag for treats and enjoy a crackling fire.
