A two-car crash in Frankfort early Wednesday morning killed the driver of one car and left the other severely injured, Frankfort police said.

Frankfort police officers were dispatched at 3:18 a.m. Wednesday to the 8400 block of Lincoln Highway, where they found two cars in the eastbound lanes of the highway that had collided, police said. Both cars had sustained major damage, with one catching fire, police said.

The two drivers, a 54-year-old Lockport resident and a 20-year-old Joliet resident, were both severely injured in the crash and were taken to a hospital, police said. The 20-year-old was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to police, who did not identify the deceased.

No one besides the two drivers was in either car, police said.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and asked anyone with information to contact the Frankfort Police Department.
