
RIBBON-CUTTING, FIRST GAMES FOR LARKIN ATHLETIC COMPLEX
Larkin High School in Elgin will host a ribbon-cutting event for the new Royals Athletic Complex at 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1.
On Friday, Oct. 2, the first varsity soccer match against Geneva High School will be played at 4:30 p.m. at the new stadium followed by the first varsity football game against Streamwood High School at 7:15 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2.
The ribbon-cutting will feature speakers talking about what the new complex means to them, to the school and to the city of Elgin, according to the School District U-46 website. Tour the facility and refreshments will be offered. The field has been named from Ray Haley, Larkin’s first football coach and athletic director.
Prior to the Friday game, members of Larkin’s past football teams will be honored on the field.
With large crowds anticipated for the Friday game, fans are encouraged to park at Creekside Elementary School, 655 N. Airlite St., or Kimball Middle School, 451 N. McLean Blvd., to be shuttled to the game starting at 5:30 p.m.
Tickets for the Friday game are $5 for adults, $3 for non-U-46 students with IDs and free for all U-46 students with IDs (elementary and middle school students must be accompanied by an adult) and district residents 62 or older. ELGIN COMMUNITY COLLEGE HOSTING APPRENTICE EXPO FRIDAY
Elgin Community College’s fourth apprentice exposition will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, in Building S, 1600 Spartan Drive, Elgin.
The expo will feature representatives from traditional apprenticeship programs, trade unions, employers, and colleges offering nontraditional apprenticeship programs and pre-apprenticeships, according to a news release.
An information session for businesses interested in offering registered apprenticeships will take place before the expo from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m.

ECC works with local employers to offer Department of Labor-registered apprenticeships, including certified nurse assistant, advanced manufacturing, cook/culinary, HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning), automation, robotics, maintenance technology, firefighter, EMT and paramedic, information technology, transportation and logistics, and bank operations/teller, the release said.

ECC CENTER FOR EMERGENCY SERVICES HOSTING OPEN HOUSE
Elgin Community College will host a 10th anniversary celebration and open house for its Center for Emergency Services, 815 E. Plank Road, Burlington, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3.
The event will start with an information session for those interested in careers in emergency services and public safety, with faculty providing an overview of the first-responder programs and discussing career opportunities in the field, according to a news release.
At 11 a.m., the center will hols a family-friendly open house featuring opportunities to climb aboard a fire engine or patrol car, firefighter training equipment demonstrations, food trucks and giveaways.
