This Far North Side district includes much of Rogers Park. Chicago Teachers Union-endorsed Ebony DeBerry, 49, is the incumbent, having won election in 2024. She faces Hector Morales, 57, an attorney with his own practice, who is endorsed by Common Ground Collective, an organization opposing CTU and Mayor Brandon Johnson and financed in large part by the chief executive officer of GCM Grosvenor, Michael Sacks.

DeBerry, who also is endorsed by Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and the Chicago Federation of Labor, has been a reliable vote for CTU. She backed the unbalanced 2027 budget and opposed the 2026 budget due to the Johnson administration’s insistence that Chicago Public Schools pay $175 million toward pensions it’s not legally obligated to support and couldn’t afford.

Morales grew up in public housing in Chicago and was the first in his family to attend college. He’s a voice of budgetary reason, and we believe he would well balance support for Chicago’s public students with support for taxpayers. We endorse Hector Morales.
