Covering parts of Logan Square, Humboldt Park, Hermosa and Belmont Cragin, this district is ably represented by Carlos Rivas Jr., who was elected in 2024.
Rivas, 36-year-old director of public affairs for the Civilian Office of Police Accountability, defeated Chicago Teachers Union-endorsed Jason Dónes in that race, and the two are squaring off in a rematch. Rivas has the backing of Common Ground Collective and, interestingly, of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), too, one of several instances in which SEIU and the Chicago Teachers Union are on different sides in these races.
Dónes, 38, who works for an education nonprofit, tells Chalkbeat his top priority is lobbying Springfield for more money for Chicago Public Schools and taxing the rich. He would be a rubber stamp for CTU.

Rivas already has built a strong record on the board, resisting outlandish demands from the mayor and the union while advocating for students. He is a thoughtful board member that no interest group can take for granted. Carlos Rivas is endorsed.
