The Naperville Park District is hosting several Halloween- and fall-themed activities in October and early November.
Families can learn about slugs, spiders, vultures and more during Creepy Critters Month at the Knoch Knolls Nature Center, 320 Knoch Knolls Road, a park district news release said.
No registration is necessary, and families can drop in at any time during October to take part in free, seasonal, self-guided activities. At least one adult must be present with children.
Halloween Happening will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25, at the Riverwalk Grand Pavilion, 912 Honorary Sindt Memorial Court.
The free event is for children ages 10 and under to show off their costumes, collect candy and win prizes. Costumes must be family-friendly, and no props or accessories that resemble real weapons are allowed.
The district also announced that a Pumpkin Smash will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 7, at the Ron Ory Community Garden Plots, 811 S. West St.
Pumpkins that are dropped off will be composted into the garden soil, the park district said. Candles, metal and decorations must be removed prior to recycling.
