For someone whose sneakers routinely sell out in minutes, Joe Robinson, creator of the streetwear brand sensation Joe Freshgoods, isn’t interested in creating another place to buy things. Every Now and Then, his new West Town boutique, café, and gallery, is designed for something retail rarely prioritizes: hanging around. “It’s more about sitting back and relaxing,” Robinson says. That’s a notable evolution for a Chicago designer with a retail résumé that includes Leaders 1354, Fat Tiger, and an earlier iteration of Every Now and Then. The new space is intentionally restrained, selling Joe Freshgoods, New Balance, Hidden Characters, and a rotating selection of archive pieces. Josephine’s, the café named for his grandmother, serves coffee, matcha, and pastries, with a garden out back. “This is my Beyoncé,” he says. “This is just me.” 1843 W. Chicago Ave.
