A juvenile driver crashed their vehicle through the front entrance glass and partially into the interior of Hometown Coffee & Juice in Glencoe Tuesday morning, Sept. 22, according to a Glencoe Public Safety Department news release.

First responders arrived at the coffee shop, 700 Vernon Avenue, at approximately 10:28 a.m., after receiving a report of a “vehicle that had crashed into the building,” the news release said.

They witnessed a Ford Bronco “partially inside the business,” according to Deputy public safety Chief Andrew Perley.

Four individuals were injured as a result of the crash and were treated at the scene for “minor lacerations” caused by broken glass from the window, Perley said.

Emergency personnel took two of those people to a local hospital for further treatment.

Perley said the crash remains under investigation, but an initial review found that the Ford Bronco was driven by a juvenile driver attempting to reverse out of a nearby parking space.

Rather than traveling backward, the car “accelerated forward, traveled over the curb, and partially entered the business through a glass window,” the news release said.

Perley declined a Pioneer Press request for comment on the age of the driver, the severity of the injuries sustained and other additional information regarding the incident because the case involves a juvenile.

Hometown Coffee & Juice has since been inspected by the village and is cleared to resume normal operations, officials said.

The roadway reopened to traffic by 10:40 a.m.
