ECC HOLDING MANUFACTURING AND TECH CENTER OPEN HOUSE

Elgin Community College will hold a ribbon-cutting and open house for its new Manufacturing and Technology Center from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24.

The event will include remarks from ECC Board of Trustees Chair Jennifer Rakow, ECC President Peggy Heinrich and Cathy Taylor, dean of sustainability, business and career technologies, according to a news release.

The 150,000-square-foot, $88 million building provides space for programs in welding and fabrication; advanced manufacturing; automation, robotics and maintenance technology; and heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration and green energy. The project was funded with bond sale money, $28.5 million from the state and nearly $3 million in federal funding.

COMMUNITY CONVERSATION ON FLOODING SET FOR SEPT. 24

Kane County Office of Water Resources, in conjunction with the city of Elgin and other Fox River communities, will hold an event on water-related issues from 5:30 to 7:45 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, at the Kane County Auditorium, 719 S. Batavia Ave., Geneva.

Those who attend will learn more about river, stormwater and rainfall-related flood risks, can share their experiences with flooding and will connect with local experts to provide input on future flood resilience planning across the county, according to a city of Elgin social media post.

PANCAKE BREAKFAST FUNDRAISER FOR ALZHEIMER’S RESEARCH

In recognition of World Alzheimer’s Month, Dundee Township Park District will host a pancake breakfast from 8 to 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 25, at the Rakow Center Adult Activities wing, 665 Barrington Ave., Carpentersville.

The park district holds the event annually with assistance from the Carpentersville’s police and fire departments, Algonquin Police Department and Village Fresh Market, according to a news release.

Breakfast will cost $5, payable in cash at the door, with proceeds supporting the Alzheimer’s Association.

SENIOR SERVICES ASSOCIATES HOSTING BOO-BASH FUNDRAISER

Senior Services Associates will hold a Halloween Boo-Bash fundraiser from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25, at the Heritage Ballroom of The Centre of Elgin, 100 Symphony Way.

Attendees are encouraged to wear Halloween costumes to the event, which raises money to support the work the nonprofit does with seniors, veterans, disabled adults and caregivers throughout the Elgin area, according to the Senior Services website.

The night will include a dinner buffet, games, a wine pull, a photo booth, door prizes, dancing and a special performance by a group of senior citizens.

Tickets are $55 for adults, $50 for seniors 60 and older and $20 for children 9 or younger. They can be purchased at seniorservicesassoc.org/events/halloween-boo-bash.
