
ALMAS, NCC TO HOLD YOUTH DISCUSSION ON DISCRIMINATION
The Alliance of Latinos Motivating Action in the Suburbs (ALMAS) and North Central College will host a panel discussion featuring Black, people of color and indigenous high school and college students navigating discrimination in education.
Free and open to the public, the event is to be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, at Stevenson Hall inside NCC’s Wentz Science Center, 131 S. Loomis St.
Spanish interpretation will be provided.

The forum will feature an interactive panel discussion that includes first-generation high school and college students who will share their experiences with discrimination in education along with mental health professionals who will offer clinical insight, a news release said.
A community resource fair will help connect those in attendance with local youth-serving and mental health organizations.
The event is designed to promote conversations on equity, belonging and mental well-being, the release said.

NAPERVILLE RESIDENTS WIN BEST-BALL EVENT FOR SENIORS
Naperville Park District’s inaugural Senior Fall Partner Best-Ball golf outing featured 124 golfers age 55 and older taking part in an 18-hole competition.
Naperville residents Bill Grommes and Nick Ettelbrick were the champions of the gross flight, with a score of 66, a news release said. In the net flight, Naperville residents Chris Canova and Carlos Barba won in a scorecard playoff with a net score of 64.
The event took place Wednesday at the Springbrook Golf Course as part of the 2026 Brooks Tournament Series.
Registration is ongoing for the next event in the tournament series. The Fall Scramble will be held Saturday, Oct. 10, at Springbrook Golf Course.

BREAST HEALTH TO BE DISCUSSED AT FORT HILL WELLNESS EVENT
Dr. Irene Israel, a surgeon from Advocate Medical Group, will talk about breast health and breast cancer during an hour-long discussion as part of the Fort Hill Wellness Series.
The discussion, which comes during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, is set for 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, at the Fort Hill Activity Center, 20 Fort Hill Drive.

Israel will talk about risk factors for breast cancer, the basics of breast cancer and the disease’s impact, a news release said. Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women in the U.S. besides skin cancer, and while rare, it is also diagnosed in men, the release said.
The presentation is free for Fort Hill Fitness members, but registration is required either in person at the activity center or by phone at 630-995-8900.
The nonmember cost is $5 per person for residents and $8 for nonresidents with registration available online at www.napervilleparks.org.
