A person who attempted an armed holdup at a Shell gas station is now in police custody after being shot by a patron Tuesday morning, according to Orland Park police.

Police Sgt. Richard Whalen would not release the names of those involved but confirmed a person pumping gas at the gas station at West 151st Street and Harlem Avenue shot someone who was attempting a robbery.

The shooter was a state-registered concealed carry license holder and is cooperating with the investigation, police said.

The person suspected of attempting an armed robbery is being treated at a hospital, police said. Officers responded to a call of shots fired at about 9 a.m., after the person was shot.
