Amateur scouting director Mike Shirley resigned and is no longer with the Chicago White Sox organization, the team announced Saturday.
The Athletic reported Saturday evening that the resignation came after an internal investigation into allegations of verbal harassment.
According to The Athletic’s report, Shirley was alleged to have made inappropriate racial and sexist comments about and in front of coworkers.
Shirley was placed on administrative leave, the report said, after the Sox received an anonymous tip pertaining to concerns about his conduct at the Area Code Games in August.
Shirley had been in the director of amateur scouting role since September 2019. He joined the Sox as a part-time area scout before the 2000 season, worked as a full-time area scout in the Midwest from 2004-09 and a cross-checker from 2010-18 before becoming assistant scouting director in November 2018.
As the director, Shirley oversaw all aspects of the amateur scouting department.
“We cannot comment on personnel matters,” the Sox said in a statement.
