An Evanston man has been charged with multiple felonies after police conducted a subsequent narcotics investigation and discovered he was allegedly selling crack cocaine in the 900 block of Maple Avenue, according to a police statement.

Andre L. Riley, 63, of the 900 block of Hinman Avenue, Evanston, was later charged by the Cook County state’s attorney’s office with five Class 1 felony counts of manufacturing and delivery of a controlled substance, two Class 2 felony counts of unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon and one Class 1 felony count of unlawful possession of 15 or more grams of cocaine.

Police conducted an investigation of Riley in August, after receiving information about alleged drug sales, the Evanston Police Department said in a news release.

Investigators gathered photographs and video footage depicting alleged narcotics-related activity as evidence before obtaining a search warrant for Riley’s residence and vehicle, the release said.

Riley was later taken into custody by police during the investigation and a search warrant recovered and seized two firearms, ammunition, drugs, money and a vehicle, according to police.

Commander Chelsea Brown confirmed in a police statement Riley is a convicted felon and is prohibited from possessing a firearm.

Riley appeared before a judge in an initial court appearance on Sept. 4, at the Skokie Courthouse, 5600 Old Orchard Road, according to the news release.

According to Cook County Circuit Court records, Riley was released from custody after being denied pretrial detention.

An arrest does not constitute a conviction.
