A one-stop information center is setting up shop at Woodland Park in Portage to assist residents and businesses affected by the Aug. 11 derecho.
The Porter County Emergency Management Agency is partnering with the Indiana Department of Homeland Security to set up the information center, EMA Director Lance Bella said in a release.
The information center will help residents and businesses that experienced storm-related damage meet with representatives from multiple local, state and federal agencies in a single location for answers about available assistance programs and to help eligible individuals and businesses begin applying for assistance.
Participating agencies include the Indiana Department of Homeland Security, Indiana Housing Department, Indiana Department of Insurance, Bureau of Motor Vehicles, Federal Emergency Management Agency and others. The Indiana Department of Health will offer information on mold cleanup and vital records replacement, Bella said.
Residents and businesses can visit the Sycamore Room at Woodland Park, 2100 Willowcreek Road in Portage, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 9 through Sept. 11, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 12.
