A homeless man has been charged with first-degree murder after allegedly stabbing, bludgeoning his former Elgin girlfriend with dumbbell, officials said.

Christian B. Flores, 54, was arrested in connection with the Sunday death of 52-year-old Charity Geisel, who was found deceased about 10:40 a.m. in her home in the 300 block of Princeton Avenue, according to an Elgin Police Department Facebook post and a news release from the police and the Kane County state’s attorney’s office.

Flores was described in the release as “the victim’s former boyfriend.” He was located in Indiana, where he is being held pending extradiction, the release said.

An autopsy conducted Monday by the Kane County coroner’s office found that Geisel’s preliminary cause of death was “blunt and sharp force injuries due to an assault.”

Police provided no information on what might have provoked the fight, how long Flores and Geisel might have been romantically involved or when they broke up. It’s not known in any weapons used in the attack have been recovered.

Elgin Police Chief Ana Lalley estended her condolences to victim’s friends and family.

“I also wish to thank the members of the Elgin Police Department for their professionalism and quick actions that led to the arrest of Mr. Flores. I also wish to extend my gratitude to the members of the Chesterton Police Department in Indiana who assisted us in this investigation.”
