A man’s body was recovered from Lake Michigan Friday, discovered in the water south of Evanston’s Lee Street Beach, according to Evanston Police Commander Ken Carter.

At approximately 11:37 a.m. Friday, Aug. 28, an Evanston parks and recreation employee reported finding an “unresponsive person” in the water near 901 Edgemere Court, Evanston, Carter said.

Police told Pioneer Press investigators are working to identify the person, but said it was an “adult white male.”

“No obvious signs of trauma were observed during the preliminary examination, and there is currently no information indicating an ongoing threat to the public,” according to a message sent by the Evanston Police Department.

A spokesperson for the Cook County medical examiner’s office told Pioneer Press it is working to identify the cause and manner of death of the man and that the incident remains under investigation.

Carter added patrol and investigations personnel are canvassing the surrounding area.
