A woman is facing an attempted murder charge after she allegedly hit her estranged husband on a motorcycle in the Crown Point courthouse parking lot Monday after a divorce hearing, an affidavit shows.
Adriana Cisneros Velazquez, 32, is also charged with two counts each of aggravated battery and domestic battery, court filings show.
She is in custody, held without bail. A court hearing is not yet scheduled.
The incident happened about 3 p.m.
A witness told police a gray Honda aimed “directly” at a motorcycle riding “erratically” in the parking lot and hit him, sending him flying, records state
The victim told police he was dragged for a short time before she crashed the car, documents state. Cisneros Velazquez then got out of the car and stabbed him in the bicep, the affidavit alleges.
The witness – who used to work with her – said the victim disarmed her and started hitting her. The victim later told police he had to defend himself, documents show.
The victim said he was leaving divorce court and was “afraid” to drive in front of her.
At the hospital, Cisneros Velazquez declined to speak with police.
Medical records showed the victim had a stab wound, wrist sprain, muscle strain and various scrapes and cuts. Officers found a “black retractable knife” at the scene.
Some of the encounter was caught on parking lot cameras.
Court filings show the victim was concerned enough about Cisneros Velazquez’s well-being to file on Aug. 13 to “suspend” or “restrict” her parenting time for the “safety” of the children.
His divorce lawyer George Galanos said Wednesday that it was granted at Monday’s hearing before the incident. The man had primary custody from the start of the divorce, he said.
“He’s lucky she didn’t kill him,” the lawyer said Wednesday. “I don’t think anybody expected it.”
