player ready...On Friday, Aug. 28, the St. Charles Business Alliance invites the community to celebrate biking and walking in St. Charles at the final STC Live! performance of the season.
The STC Live! series of events took place throughout the summer on Wednesday and Friday evenings at First Street Plaza and at various local businesses in St. Charles.
Starting at 6 p.m. Aug. 28, participants will have the chance to enjoy a live music performance by the Corey Marshall Trio. Along with the musical entertainment, various community groups will be onsite providing information, resources and giveaways on how to make the most of biking in St. Charles, according to a press release about the event.
Sammy’s Bikes will also be at First Street Plaza providing complimentary adjustments for bicycles. Individuals who ride their bike to the event can also receive free water in a limited-edition St. Charles aluminum bottle, while supplies last, the release said.
Attendees are also encouraged to visit the new seasonal bike mural, recently installed on the steps of First Street Plaza, event organizers said.

University of Illinois Extension to host open house
University of Illinois Extension will host its Extension Connection Community Day on Sunday, Aug. 30, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Kane County Idea Garden in St. Charles.
The free open house will feature activities for all ages highlighting the environment, gardening, food, wellness and more, organizers said.
The local Extension team will be joined at the event by Master Gardeners, Master Naturalists and 4-H volunteers at the Kane County Master Gardener Idea Garden at 3480 Lincoln Highway in St. Charles.

Grant to help seniors become health workers
HAP Foundation has been awarded a $712,000 federal grant to extend its AmeriCorps Senior Workforce Development Program to DuPage, Will and Lake counties over the next three years.
The program will offer seniors 55 and older a chance to become community health workers, a news release said.
Starting in September, there will be two opportunities offered.
The workforce reentry track is designed to help those wanting to return to the workforce as community health workers and receive state certification when it is finalized later this year.
Under the second option, the volunteer advancement track, participants can become community health volunteers.
All participants will receive 50 hours of orientation and training, while those in the workforce reentry track will receive an additional 60 hours of training and 80 hours of on-the-job training, the release said. Compensation will be $625 for completing the volunteer advancement track and $2,250 for the workforce reentry track.
