A man who strangled and threatened an Elgin child he was sexually assaulting to keep her quiet has been convicted by a Kane County jury.
Quinton K. Hawkins, 29, of Streamwood, was found guilty of several felony charges, including one count each of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child and aggravated criminal sexual abuse and two counts of aggravated domestic battery-strangulation, according to a Kane County state’s attorney’s office news release.
Prosecutors said Hawkins sexually assaulted the child on multiple occasions between Aug. 1, 2023, and March 15, 2024.
“There was evidence that Hawkins attempted to keep the child quiet by telling her if she told anyone, they would die,” the release said. “The assaults were uncovered when the child told her teacher and school social worker about the strangulation. The school notified the Elgin Police Department, who contacted the Kane County Child Advocacy Center to take over the case.”
Hawkins faces a prison term of between 6 and 67 years in prison when sentenced and must register as a sex offender for life.
His next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 14. He is being held in the Kane County jail.
