The Orland Park Village Board voted Monday to approve a $275 million cancer office and parking structure, adding to Northwestern Medicine’s sprawling campus near Centennial Park.

“I think it’s going to be a great amenity to the village,” board member John Lawler said. “We do have some aging population here, and obviously, not having to go downtown for treatment … you’re going to get it out here in Orland Park, which is just a great add to our community.”

Northwestern Medicine received a $225 million donation from the private St. George Foundation toward the four-story office building and a 484-car parking garage. The foundation shares with the medical center a “desire to advance the health of residents in the southwest region,” according to Northwestern.

The proposed facility is expected to include infusion stations, diagnostic imaging and radiation treatment among its services.

A hospital spokesperson declined Tuesday to provide additional information, saying more will become available in a few weeks.

“So not only are we going to get the new cancer center, but they’re also going to have other expanded services in the existing space,” Koczwara said.

Northwestern is still waiting for final approvals at the state level, Koczwara said, expected in September. He said construction is expected to begin in the fall to wrap up in 2029.

The Village Board approved modifications that allow the building to be constructed 30 feet, rather than 50 feet, away from existing wetlands. The maximum building height was also adjusted to 51 ½ feet, from 50 feet, and a landscape buffer will no longer be required along the east side of the lot.

Mayor Jim Dodge said the requested modifications were “relatively minor” and worth approving as an incentive for development.

With the new Northwestern cancer center and planned expansion of the University of Chicago Medical Center in Orland Park’s downtown area, “we can maintain that status as a go-to for world class medical care,” Dodge said.
