A man was killed by a security guard Saturday after he began shooting inside a Robbins bar and restaurant, with bullets grazing two people including Mayor Darren Bryant, according to a village spokesperson.
Marquelle Rose, 29, of Chicago, walked into Harold’s Chicken and Ice Bar near South Claire Boulevard and Spaulding Avenue shortly after midnight Saturday and began shooting at his “intended target” near the entrance, the Cook County sheriff’s office and Robbins spokesperson Sean Howard said Monday.
Howard said after Rose opened fire, a security guard under contract with the bar responded, shooting the masked gunman. Rose was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead at about 1 a.m. of multiple gunshot wounds, according to the sheriff’s office and Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Bryant and the 29-year-old DJ working that night were grazed by ricocheting bullets and treated at the hospital, Howard said, adding neither was Rose’s intended target. Howard declined to provide information about the intended target or the exchange between Rose and the security guard, saying the Cook County sheriff’s office is leading the investigation.
Howard said the Bryant was at the bar for a senior resident’s birthday party and was chatting to patrons while waiting for food he had ordered when the shots rang out.
“The DJ and the mayor were, like many others, trying to seek cover and safety at that point, and were grazed,” Howard said.

He said the mayor “obviously was shaken a little bit.”
“It’s the first time he’s ever experienced something in his life like that,” Howard said. “But he was more concerned about the seniors and other residents that were inside the facility.”
Howard said Harold’s Chicken and Ice Bar will remain closed until Robbins police finish their investigation into the incident, which he estimated will be on Tuesday.
