Former Tinley Park police Cmdr. Patrick St. John pleaded guilty last week to violating an order of protection and was sentenced to 12 months of court supervision, according to court records.

St. John had been initially charged with domestic battery and another charge of violating an order of protection in December 2025. He resigned from his position with the Tinley Park Police Department shortly after being charged.

Court records show that he was charged with an additional count of violating an order for protection in May, and he pleaded guilty to that charge Wednesday as part of a deal in which his other charges were dropped, according to the Cook County state’s attorney’s office.

The office said the terms of the guilty plea, including dismissing the other charges, were reached in consultation with the victim in the case,

“In every case, the (state’s attorney’s office) carefully reviews the facts and evidence to seek justice for victims and pursue resolutions that hold offenders accountable,” the state’s attorney’s office said in a statement.

A lawyer listed as representing St. John in court records declined to comment.

St. John worked for Tinley Park police for nearly 27 years and was promoted to commander in December 2024, about a year before he was charged.
