A grand jury indicted an Indianapolis man in documents filed Thursday in connection with a fatal shooting outside an East Chicago bar on Christmas Day 2021, documents allege.

Tyren Johnson, 38, was indicted on a murder charge in Lake Superior Court in Crown Point in the death of Eric Douglas, 32, of East Chicago, according to limited public court filings.

He is in custody, held without bail. He made a court appearance Friday where a public defender was appointed.

A law enforcement source confirmed Johnson is charged in Douglas’ death outside Ralo’s Bar, 3948 Alder Street.

East Chicago Police previously said officers responded around 1:46 a.m. and found Douglas face down outside the bar, according to a department Facebook post.

They alleged someone locked the bar when police went looking for witnesses and everyone inside refused to cooperate.

The bar’s owner, at the time, told them he retained a lawyer, the post stated.
