A 51-year-old Aurora man has been charged with more than a dozen felony counts of possession of child sexual abuse material, according to the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office and Kane County Sheriff’s Office.

Between March 4 and May 30, Robert L. Reese, 51, is accused of possessing multiple images containing child sexual abuse material which depicted victims under the age of 13, a news release from the state’s attorney’s and sheriff’s offices said. Reese had previously been convicted for aggravated criminal sexual abuse, per the offices.

Reese has now been charged with 15 felony counts of possession of child sexual abuse material as a prior sex offender, the news release said.

Reese was arrested at his home in Aurora on the morning of Aug. 11, according to the state’s attorney’s and sheriff’s offices. He was taken into the custody of the Aurora Police Department, then later transferred to the Kane County jail.

The following day, Reese was brought to court for a pretrial detention hearing, during which the court — denying the state’s petition for his detention — ordered him released under pretrial supervision while his case is pending, per the news release.

He is next set to appear in court on Sept. 4, Kane County Circuit Court records show.

The investigation in the case was conducted by the Kane County Child Exploitation Unit, according to the news release, with assistance from the Aurora Police Department, Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office, Lake County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI.
