SENIOR SOCIAL TALK ON ELGIN WATCH FACTORY

Elgin History Museum Director Rebecca Miller will talk about the history of Elgin National Watch Co. factory from 9:30 to 10:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 17, at the Elgin Township Senior Social Cafe, 729 S. McLean Blvd., Elgin.

Miller’s program will cover the factory’s various departments, its rules and employee perks, according to a social media post. The factory opened in 1867 and was demolished in 1966.

‘WHAT MAKES ELGIN TOWNSHIP TICK?’ SET FOR SATURDAY

Elgin Township will host “What Makes Elgin Township Tick?” from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, at its 729 S. McLean Blvd. location in Elgin.

The event will feature 30 community organization booths, a volunteer fair, pet adoptions, a bouncy house, family games and activities, a car show, Dairy Queen, the township’s cow and a dunk tank to raise money for Food for Greater Elgin, according to a news release.

The dunk tank will feature several public officials, including township Trustee Ed Hanson, Elgin City Councilmen Corey Dixon and Anthony Ortiz, Food For Greater Elgin CEO Andre Diez, Elgin Township political organization chairmen, Democrat Ed Rzeppa and Republican David Teas, and Elgin Township Supervisor and Kane County Board member Vern Tepe.

Donations will earn a free Brittain’s car wash, while supplies last, the release said.

Family activities will include an area showcasing public works and public safety vehicles, including a garbage truck, a small school bus, a cement truck and the U.S. Postal Service’s Ugly Duck Mail Truck.

ANDERSON HUMANE BINGO FUNDRAISER ON SUNDAY

South Elgin-based animal shelter Anderson Humane will hold a bingo fundraiser from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 16, at State Street Market Shops, 701 N. State St., Elgin.

For $5, players will receive two bingo cards to compete for prizes, according to the nonprofit’s website. Those who donate to Anderson Humane will receive an additional bingo card at no extra charge. Free hot dogs and condiments will be served.

MEXICAN CONSULATE TO BE AT ELGIN LIBRARY

The Mexican Mobile Consulate will be at the Gail Borden Public Library in downtown Elgin from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18, and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday, Aug. 19-22.

Consulate staff will be issuing passports, consular cards and voting cards, according to the library’s website.
