An early morning fire that started in an Elgin garage and spread to two nearby homes caused more than $150,000 in damage, according to the Elgin Fire Department.
Firefighters arrived at the 200 block of South Weston Avenue about 2:15 a.m. Monday to find that a fire in a detached, two-car garage had extended to the exterior of two homes and two vehicles parked in the driveway, a news release said.
The homes’ four occupants were able to exit before firefighters arrived and the fire was under control within 15 minutes of the department’s arrival, the release said. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Initial fire, smoke and water damage estimates exceed $150,000, the release said.
