Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell, who has been absent from the Senate since a June fall at his home, has been released from a rehabilitation center to continue his recovery at home.

“On the advice of my doctors, I’ll maintain an intensive regimen of physical therapy from home during the state work period, and I’ll continue to engage with my staff and colleagues on important Senate business,” the 84-year-old Republican said Thursday in a statement.

McConnell, the chamber’s former Republican leader, is not seeking reelection and is set to vacate his seat in January. Representative Andy Barr won the Republican primary and is the favorite to win in November against Democrat Charles Booker.

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, a Democrat, has demanded more transparency from McConnell on his health and ability to return to the Senate. McConnell has not appeared in public since his injury and has only released two photos of himself in that time.
