JAYCEES LOOKING FOR LAST FLING VOLUNTEERS

The Naperville Jaycees are recruiting volunteers to help at the annual Last Fling festival over Labor Day weekend.

Volunteers can be individuals or part of an organization or a business, a news release said. Each day requires different types of help, including people to work at beverage and food tents and to serve as special event assistants, entrance tent staff and parking attendants.

Volunteers representing a nonprofit organization, such as athletic teams, scouting troops and service organizations, will earn $7 per hour per volunteer for their group, organizers said. Volunteers must be middle-school age or older.

To volunteer, go to www.lastfling.org/volunteer or email [email protected].

MOSQUITOES TEST POSITIVE FOR WNV IN NAPERVILLE

Mosquitoes in three of 10 mosquito traps in Naperville have tested positive for West Nile virus, said city officials, who urged residents to take precautions to protect themselves from the mosquito-borne illness.

The results were part of the city’s routine mosquito monitoring and testing program, a news release said. Mosquitoes in traps on Genesse Drive, Sportsman’s Park off West Street and Olesen Drive tested positive the weeks of July 20 and 27.

Crews treated the affected areas as a precaution, the release said.

To help control the mosquito population, city crews remove standing water where possible and treat ponds, marsh areas and catch basins to target mosquitoes in the larval stage, the release said.

The city monitors and tests its 10 mosquito traps weekly to evaluate the effectiveness of larval control and test for West Nile Virus. It’s done weekly throughout the summer.

The city also sprays, as needed, to control the adult mosquito population, the release said.

DUPAGE, RTA SEEK ON-DEMAND RIDE FEEDBACK

The DuPage County Division of Transportation and the Regional Transportation Authority are asking county residents to complete a survey to improve on-demand ride services.

Open through Aug. 17, the survey takes five minutes to do and completion enters participants into a drawing for one of two $100 Visa gift cards, a news release said.

The survey is part of LinkUp DuPage, a countywide study that started this spring and should be finished in summer 2027, the project website said.

It seeks to improve demand response transportation services, which are flexible public transit options based on passenger requests rather than a fixed schedule. These include Ride DuPage, dial-a-rides, Pace Paratransit and Pace On-Demand.

The survey is available at www.linkupdupage.org.
