DOING DOG TESTS IN HOT SUMMER MAKES NO SENSE

Seriously, has the entire world gone goofy? Just consider the following before making any judgment…

Years ago, I started walking my dog at Burnidge Forest Preserve in Elgin. One fall, after the first frost had killed off the tall weeds as well as the overabundance of annoying insects, a group of canine lovers were planting flags in the natural grasslands for a field test to be conducted the next day.

After a few years, the field tests stopped and it was just me and the hound passing the time traversing the open fields.

However, this weekend I noticed the tests had been revived but now they were being conducted in the heart of summer and with heat indexes exceeding 100 degrees.

If these people are truly animal lovers, why would they be subjecting their pets to intolerable conditions that not only included thick, waist-high weeds but an infestation of ticks besides?

I repeat, has the world gone crazy or is it just a temporary condition brought on by the excessive heat?
